These Authentic Japanese Gardens are set in the beautiful seaside town of Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland. They tell the extraordinary story of Irish Writer Patrick Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo), who grew up in Ireland, and who travelled across the world to Japan, marrying into a Samurai Family. He became known as 'The Great Interperter of Japan to the West' the gardens tell his fantastic story through the rocks and planting. The Gardens overlook the beach and bay of Tramore and are in the Town Centre of Tramore, Co. Waterford.
Follow Lafcadio Hearn’s life journey, first through the Victorian Garden, then to the American and Greek gardens, until you eventually arrive in the Japanese gardens which feature many Japanese plants and Japanese architectural features. The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens are a haven of beauty and tranquility for all who visit.
Children are introduced to these magical gardens through a special children’s discovery trail, secret pathways, woodlands and Lafcadio Hearn’s fairytales and folklore.
On arrival please go through the main Gate at Pond Road and turn immediately left through Japanese Gate by hut. Please present your ticket or name to staff at Ticket Office on righthand side.
It is the priority of Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens to ensure the safety of Staff, Volunteers and Visitors to the Gardens. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Due to health and safety dogs are not permitted in gardens except Guide and Service Dogs. Please keep to paths at all times and wear comfortable shoes.
